One to One Counselling

We offer one to one counselling to Survivors of all genders who have been sexually abused in a safe and confidential environment by professional counsellors. Our counsellors have specialist training and knowledge of the impact sexual abuse has on lives and relationships. We also offer counselling to those who are supporting men and women who have experienced Sexual Abuse – for example partners or friends.

You can access our counselling:

  • Face to Face in London, in some areas
  • Telephone throughout the UK
  • Online throughout the UK

We aim to offer all our services at reasonable rates.

All our counsellors are professionally trained and Members of the British Association for Counsellors and Psychotherapists and abide by their ethics. They all have their own personal insurance, Supervision and are individually totally responsible for their clients in every way – that means you can talk to them directly about any questions or concerns you may have.

Do I need Counselling?

All of us go through difficult phases in our lives – this could be through relationship difficulties, finding yourself unemployed, feeling lonely or just not really knowing what is wrong – but not feeling good or happy. If you have been sexually abused difficulties can feel much much worse – this may be because of the underlying feelings that the abuse has caused us. It can be tempting at times to push these feelings aside – but often they do re-emerge in stronger ways. For example, suddenly bursting into rage or tears when you didn’t expect to, having difficulties in relationships or suffering from depression.

Talking to friends can be really helpful and but sometimes we need to look for professional support in order to get perspective on our situation and feel stronger. This support can be a Counsellor or Psychotherapist – someone trained to help and understand us in times of stress or difficulty.

How would counselling help me?

If you have not been to a counsellor before (or perhaps even if you have) it is likely you may think about counselling with a great deal of apprehension. We understand this and aim to make the sessions as comfortable as possible for you.

Counselling is a space where you share your thoughts, feelings and problems with someone who is trained in listening. This process is designed to help you understand how your past issues and experiences relate to your behaviours and how you experience life today. It is with this understanding and support from the counsellor you can then go on to make the changes to your life that would like to. At Into The Light we specialize in how sexual abuse has impacted us. Our aim is to provide you with an opportunity and space to explore your past and the impact the abuse may have had on your life, choices and relationships and so enable you to find new ways of relating and looking at life. We look at how it affects our self image, our relationships, ways out of negative cycles of behaviour and ideas for moving forward to gain better relationships and new hope for the future.

At Into The Light:

  • We aim to listen with understanding at all times.
  • We won’t judge you on where you are now or the decisions you have made.
  • We won’t leave you with long awkward silences
  • We try to be as open and caring as we possibly can be.

How will I know if Into The Light Counselling is right for me?

We will offer you one initial session. During the session we will talk together about what you would like from your sessions and if this fits in with what we can offer you. Together, we will then work out the next stage for you.

What can I expect to happen in the first session?

The first session will last for 50 minutes. During this time we will be looking at what has bought you to counselling and what you would like from it. We will then discuss ways in which to proceed. If we decide together more sessions would be beneficial these will be regular appointments and at the same time once a week. There will be plenty of time at the initial session for you to ask questions.

Does Into The Light accept Difference?

We want to be as inclusive as we can be – our services are available to people of all genders whatever their class, nationality, culture or faith or sexuality.

At present in the project we do not work with young people who are under eighteen, but if you contact us we will try and sign post you to another service.

Also, we do not knowingly work with anyone or have or has had sexually offending behaviour, or anyone with convictions against children

How much does it cost?

Fees will be discussed with your counsellor on contacting them. Payment for the first session is taken in cash or through online banking.
